The importance of booklets and publications
Back in the days there was no internet. In order to publicly represent the official Seventh-day Adventist faith, they printed in booklets, and in our papers.
1872 - The first appearance
“The Declaration of the Fundamental Principles Taught and Practiced by Seventh-day Adventists” - printed as a pamphlet (original scan, *). They appeared anonymous, presented as a short public synopsis of what Seventh-day Adventists believe.
1874 - The Signs of the Times

1874 - The Advent Review and Herald of the Sabbath
Original scan: RH November 24, 1874, p.171 * Uriah Smith signed the declaration as the main editor of the Review and Herald of the Sabbath periodical at that time.
1874 - Part of a booklet: The Seventh-day Adventists: A Brief Sketch of Their Origin, Progress, and Principles
Booklet was reprinted in 1876 and 1878 and later years.

Original scan: YB1889 * (p. 145 - 151) Uriah Smith extended Fundamental Principles to 28 propositions. He added point on sanctification (point 14), dress reform (point 15) and tithing (point 16). Also he made small textual changes in some expressions, but semantics remained the same.

Giving the report from Iowa Camp Meeting where everybody could get acquainted with SDA faith.
Those who attended the meetings regularly obtained a pretty full knowledge of their Article of Faith, but those who attended only a single service or not at all, can know but little of them. Under these circumstance we feel justified in giving a brief synopsis of portions of their Declaration of Principles: [then they quoted portion of Fundamental Principles]
